There are two kind of people in life “dreamers”and “doers.” Reading this book is isn’t for the “dreamers”it’s about the American dream and the “entrepreneurial doers.” Many books facilitate the “pipe dream” and what you “should do” in business. Very few books give you the steps and focus and emphasis on the “how to do it.” In this book( I mean guide because that’s what it really is) it specifically gives you the recipe of success in a finite HVAC world which is exceptional. At the same time it’s diagnosis of of your HVAC business understanding as an HVAC contractor financially. Whether your at the beginning, middle or end of your business this book navigates the rough waters of the blue collar trade. It eloquently tells you how to step by step become a profitable HVAC entrepreneur. Not many authors can tell you the how’s and why’s to make money and especially how to articulate this. This book is by far the best ever in its class...It’s “HVAC spells wealth” on steroids and twice as much relevant in 2018.

As a former contractor and now a distributor territory manager this book is the real deal for contractors and territory managers who want to be business experts in the HVAC industry. This easy reads allows me to share information with prospective and present dealers to sharpen processes and maximize their net margins. This book is also great for new start-ups that need details on how to correctly price jobs and manage their overhead. I was in business in the mid-1990s and understanding market caps and the importance of service agreements would have generated greater cashflow to grow my add-on replacement and service business by hiring more people. Kudos to the authors for giving the industry a reference guide that can be used for years to come.Chris Smith

I have been in the HVAC industry for 8+ years working for manufactures and distributors selling multiple brands of HVAC equipment from Goodman to RHEEM and I wish every contractor, small or large would read this book. It covers a lot of concepts that most contractors overlook and get wrong including pricing, overhead, people management, and financial statements. Most companies I have worked with are great HVAC technicians but are always missing some business aspects that cost them money. If you own your own HVAC business or are thinking about starting one, I would recommend this read and start picking up the money left on the table.

As a new territory manager in the HVAC business with no industry experience this book has really helped me establish great relationships with current and new customers.Using the information in Chapter 2 as an introduction of the book as a whole, my customers have been able to verify that they are making money on jobs and in one case using these principles a customer realized they were leaving close to $600 on the table per job.Knowing what this information can do for my contractor customers I am making sure each contractor has a copy of this book and I will be helping them implement many of the financial concepts In it.

Great short book that didn't necassarily tell me what I was doing wrong but instead told me all of the big things I was not even doing! This book is a great little handbook for those of us that are great at the trade side of the business but not so great on the business side of it. Easy read and short enough to not get confusing or forgotten.

I recently attended a dealer meeting in which Scott was the Keynote speaker. He also had a break out session and went into more detail about the book. I got the book that day started reading when I got home and couldn't put it down. This is a great read for any HVAC company small or big, new or old! I wish I would have had this book 7 years ago when I bought my father out, I would be way further ahead now.

As a marketing manager for an HVAC distributorship I thought this book would be very helpful for an HVAC contractor. The book was easy to read and the authors made the financial concepts easy to understand. I especially liked the marketing section to grow your replacement and service business. If a contractor wants to grow their business profitably this book shows the way.

Great read if you're into HVAC

The Encyclopedia of Vampires, Werewolves, and Other Monsters, by Rosemary Ellen Guiley

From Publishers Weekly

In this thorough compendium, Guiley presents tales and beliefs from all over the world and from times ranging from far in the past to the present day. The author of numerous similar reference works (The Complete Vampire Companion, etc.) and an honorary life member of the Ghost Club of London, Guiley is an expert in this field and, from this book, it seems that no appearance of the supernatural, however brief, in folklore or pop culture has escaped her notice. Vampire books, films and TV series (such as Anne RiceÂ’s Vampire Chronicles, the original 1931 Dracula and the gothic soap opera Dark Shadows) receive extensive entries, and even the writers and actors are discussed at length. One can read about the "vegetable vampires" of gypsy lore (pumpkins and watermelons that go bad and begin "shaking and noisily disturbing people and animals") and about the huli jing, a Chinese fairy that "seduces victims and sucks off the victimsÂ’ life force during orgasm." Vampires dominate, but legends like that of the Slavic vlokolak, or werewolf, and the Shetland wulver, another type of dog-man, also appear. Guiley is deadly serious about her subject, treating legends and modern parodies of vampire movies, such as Blacula and Count Yorga, with the same academic intensity that permeates university courses on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Short citations for further reading follow many entries, and the volume is extensively cross-referenced. Members of the Vampire Empire club, founded by Jeanne Keyes Youngson, who provided the foreword for this book, or anyone else obsessed with the literally bloodthirsty will find this a fascinating reference. 102 b&w photos and illustrations.Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. Dr. Rosemary Guiley's encyclopedias of the paranormal, supernatural, magical and otherworldly realms are a treat to read as they are filled with lots of information based on meticulous research. I have several of her encyclopedias and find them informative and illuminating. This title compiles information on vampires, werewolves, and other monsters. The entries are arranged alphabetically, and there are many photographs and sketches included (all in B&W). The book itself is in an over-sized paperback format and the paper is of good quality for a paperback which I assume will hold up with frequent use (though I would have preferred a hardcover format with photographs and illustrations in a combination of color and B&W to enhance the reading experience).Though this encyclopedia covers vampires, werewolves, and other monsters, the entries on vampires are the most detailed. The author does a credible job of covering the various forms of vampirism, the types of vampires, the mythology of vampires and vampirism in various cultures, and the portrayal of vampires in popular culture, for example in iconic shows such as Dark Shadows DVD Collection 1,Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Collector's Set (40 discs), movies featuring vampires such as Dracula (75th Anniversary Edition) (Universal Legacy Series), the legendary actors who have portrayed the Count, and many more. The author indicates that she has put in lots of research into her work, with entries of vampires as depicted in various cultures, e.g. African, Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, etc. Despite this, I felt that some of the entries could have done with more elaboration. I hail from Southeast Asia myself and am quite familiar with the mythology of the vampire in SEA. I was glad to note the author included entries on 'pontianak' (female vampire), though it is far from complete. There is no mention that the pontianak is partial to the frangipani tree (a tree that has fragrant blooms) and also the banyan tree, or the belief that the pontianak can be turned back into a mortal female by driving a nail into the back of the creature's head. Nor it is mentioned that the pontianak is usually the result of a female who dies in childbirth as believed by many villagers in Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia. That aside, I felt that the coverage on werewolves and other monsters was underwhelming. I gathered from reading this encyclopedia that the other monsters were mainly shapeshifters, skinwalkers, etc. but once again the coverage was not exhaustive and the entries that were provided were not detailed, especially with reference to non-European cultures. On the whole though, I felt that the author deserves some praise for putting in the research for this book as there really aren't that many books or encyclopedias out there on this subject. This is not only entertaining and informative but also provides ideas for writers, and the bibliography provided under some entries are an added bonus for those keen on more research.

A must for every magical library! This is a pretty good source book for the creatures listed. I've used it on several occasions for papers. It's just the right size. Of course it doesn't contain every bit of information on the subject out there, but it's an overall well rounded encyclopedia that does have a large portion of popular common knowledge and more obscure information. The binding is great so the spine doesn't split when you open it. The format is nice and easy to follow and the entries are detailed. I would recommend as a good encyclopedia covering the topic of monsters.

A very fun encyclopedia on monsters. I really enjoyed other cultures monsters and how quite a bit of research was put into this book.

Not a book for the zoodo cryptology !?!!Whatever.Go F!! Yourselves! It’s a book about serial killers Before the FBI. Werewolves Vampires

Dr. Guiley delivers a spectacular book once more, as she did with the Encyclopedia of Ghosts and Spirits. This large book focuses largely on vampires; including vampire movies with plots and cast information but also reviews werewolves, vampire-like spirits, and all manner of undead and shape shifters. Dr. Guiley digs deep into every culture, unearthing legendery monsters from the East and West. I found this book to be thoroughly enjoyable reading and very informative. Five stars. I look forward to her next encylopedia.

For anyone truly interested in Vampire and werewolf lore, this book includes stories and examples from various cultures as well as more modern examples from movies and novels. Its an interesting read, giving many short stories that illustrate the vampire and wolf lore from all around the world and through out history. It gives a great starting point for anyone researching the subject. It has complete notes citing original sources.

Very in depth, very informational.

I absolutely love this book. Easy reading, super informative. Highly recommended this book for anyone even remotely interested in this type of info.

The Theory of Poker: A Professional Poker Player Teaches You How To Think Like One, by David Sklansky

About the Author

David Sklansky is generally considered the number one authority on gambling in the world today. Besides his ten books on the subject, David also has produced two videos and numerous writings for various gaming publications. His occasional poker seminars always receive an enthusiastic reception, including those given at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City and the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. More recently, David has been doing consulting work for casinos, Internet gaming sites, and gaming device companies. He has recently invented several games, soon to appear in casinos. David attributes his standing in the gambling community to three things: 1. The fact that he presents his ideas as simply as possible (sometimes with Mason Malmuth) even though these ideas frequently involve concepts that are deep, subtle, and not to be found elsewhere. 2. The fact that the things he says and writes can be counted on to be accurate. 3. The fact that to this day a large portion of his income is still derived from gambling (usually poker, but occasionally blackjack, sports betting, horses, video games, casino promotions, or casino tournaments). Thus, those who depend on DavidÂ’s advice know that he still depends on it himself.

#12,587 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

As a novice poker player, I was hoping for something to give me an edge during my friends' Texas Hold'em games. Let me first say this book is not written for a novice. He throws around advanced poker terms left and right. Thankfully he has provided a glossary in the back so you aren't completely lost when he talks about being heads up on a come hand on 4th street, but I realized early on that I was perhaps in over my head. That said, I persevered and now I think about poker in a completely different way. I always thought it was a game of chance and reading people, but boy was I wrong. He taught me to see it as a game of odds, just like any other casino game. When you are deciding if you should call, fold, or raise, he shows you that the decision should be made based on numbers: what are the odds you will make your hand (based on what else is showing and how many cards are left); what is the ratio of the call/bet to the money in the pot; what are the odds your opponents will bluff; and so on. This may be obvious to the advanced player, but I'm pretty confident beginners gloss over this most important fact. You have to look at poker as a long game of odds, and not a short game of hands. So he starts with describing how the odds work and how to play according to those odds, and then he starts getting into the variations - the times when "playing by the rules" isn't actually the correct play to maximize long term gain. This includes bluffing, semi-bluffing, your position in the play order, how your opponents play, and so on. Much of it is logical once you think about it, but may not occur to you otherwise (if you're like me, anyway).I have two criticisms, however. There is an amazing amount of knowledge in this book - each chapter is filled with "what to do in this situation" tips. So much so that it's easy to get lost ("But in the last chapter you said this..."). I wish that there was a compendium of tips, sort of like the magic card for blackjack. Distill the text down into bullet points that can be easy to refer back to after understanding the text.Second, he often glazes over the logic and strings together multiple tactics at once in his examples. For example, he'll say something like "You think your opponent has the best hand and the pot odds are 3:4, so obviously you should do X" (not quoted verbatim). Well, it's not obvious every time really. I have to stop reading at that point, try to remember what I just read two pages ago, and combine that with what I read two days and 40 pages ago. You can get there for sure, but it would be nice if he gave a little more of the "why" during the examples.Otherwise the book is easy to read in tone and is a great wealth of information for people looking to take their game to the next level.

Sklansky's Theory of Poker is a poker classic, for a serious player. Add SuperSystem, and then of course Cowboy's Full for a historical perspective, and you have a good brew to chew on. If you just need a crash-course in hold'em, then take a look at Hellmuth's (yes, indeed) basic book on Texas Hold'em. And, if you want a good look at mixed-games overview, try Steiner's Thursday Night Poker.

Not the easiest book to read, at least not in one setting. A lot of math, some made more complex than it need be IMO. Good for out of game analysis though, and will help you catch your leaks. It promotes more defensive style than what many of today's pro's style, but it also should allow less variance. So if you are looking to understand poker from the perspective of a longtime well-respected pro player, this one that you need in your library. I have read it and reread sections as I come across situations for which I need more analysis.

This book is about the Fundamental Theory of Poker. Although not a recent book, much of the information is timeless. These are the ideas that separate the experts from the average players. In addition to the Fundamental Theorem of Poker and how it should affect your play, the book discusses deception, bluffing, the slow-play, the value of position, psychology, game theory, implied odds, semi bluffing, and more. A great read and one that should be in any serious poker player’s library.

This one was one of my first buys (I now have more that 30 poker books, this one was my second or third buy)Well, after many years in my library, I can review it for anyone interested. If you are a beginner, this one is THE MUST !!!! I remember when I first read it I was amazed from the issues it covered. Terms like Blocking Bet, Semi-Bluffing and defense against it, and so many more were all all new to me, and will open a bright new world to any newcomer who wants to actually study and learn poker beyond the basics!I know that in 2013, many of these topics seem so basic and obvious that might not raise that big of an interest but thinking that this book was written so many years ago, shows how important it is.One big plus of it is that it is not written with No Limit Holdem Hands only as examples! This is extremely important, cause it proves that its subjects are not applicable in NLHE only but in any form of poker. It also helps us get a better look at the big image, as knowing other forms of poker is always important if one wants to improve as a player overall.Even many years after its original release, this one remains a buy-or-die book for poker readers.

This is a great book, well written and organized. However, I returned my first order/book because the binding separated releasing the pages from the book. I returned it and ordered another book. It too was poorly made, and again, into the first sections of the book the pages came out of the binding and free of the book. I returned the second book with having read less than half of it. Sad!!!
