I purchased this book along with two other items. 101 Swing Essentials and Big Band Swing filled out my excursion into the Big Bands and Swing Era. The Swing Book is very well written and guides you through the times. Bands,music and personalities are introduced and you get to know them. This is the book you need if you want to know about Swing. I have always been curious of the time and music. This book THE SWING BOOK coupled with the book BIG BAND SWING for the sheet music and the CD or download of 101 SWING ESSENTIALS will put it all together. The Swing Book is descriptive and covers the bands, people and music. 101 Swing Essentials lets you listen to a song as you read of it and Big Band Swing offers the core of the songs in sheet music. A wonderful trio. If you must purchase only one of the three then I would suggest this book THE SWING BOOK. But, I really recommend going for the three as they really put it all together. Good stuff.

Degen Pener has really done his homework on this one. A fine book which treats its subject with respect. With the exception of a few books, Swing is usually given a brief glance in books on music and Jazz and those books often put the music and the dancers down. Pener really seems to like his subject and gives great recommendations on music to buy if you're just starting a collection. Top it all off with a reasonable price and you've got a book that Jazz lovers, Swing music lovers, and Swing dancers should clear space for on their book shelf.

but nothing more. I would recommend it if you are interested in the history of swing (particularly the music) and want a guide to swing musicians. Do not expect to learn to swing dance from this book. The lindy hop chapter is like like a glossary of swing dance terms.Overall, it is well written and and provides a good introduction but it is too general and its focus can be too brief at times. It doesn't contain anything you couldn't learn from going to a swing dance or using a search engine.

What a fabulous book! It appealed to the dancer in me at once. I bought it on a whim, even though I was afraid of getting just another superficial treatment of swing. Pener proved me wrong; this book is killer-diller! I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of research Pener did for the book; any history major (which I am) would be proud of this one. Well-written, well-researched, with tons of addresses, web sites, and CD recommendations, this book is a gem. I thought knew quite a bit about the history and development of swing--I was wrong. A great resource for dancers who want to learn more swing history, culture and fashions. Every dancer, music historian, and swing lover should own this book!

Carlson's book is a snapping great book! It definitely opens your eyes to the transitional elements of design into our society and how it has impacted our way of seeing design as an important aspect to life. The only lacking component to the book is the author's critical analysis on the ideas and examples that he proposes. If that was his intention, he still did a great job in making his book completely engaging. The way in which Carlson formulated the book made the reading process entirely interactive, fun, and easier to read, compared to a formless novel densely packed with words. Definitely a great book to read while sitting and sipping on a cup of tea or coffee.

If you are a cannabis user, then you like me already know the pain of lighting one up, as you have to make sure you go outside, away from people and all that jazz. I live in a building where smoking is prohibited. But this book was truly an eye opener for me, it is like smoking or puffing an e-cigarette, which is allowed in most places even inside my apartment building.I have heard about it, even saw some videos on YouTube, but wasn't very clear in what all it takes to do all this, until I found. bought and read the book. This book is a clear guide on who you can get started vaping not just cannabis but various other herbs and even wax. I am very delighted and felt compelled to write this review as I just bought and tried my first cannabis vaping experience. best part is there is little to no waste! This is a great book indeed.

I don't feel that there is anything deceptive about this book at all. The cover says it is about all different types of vaping and that's exact;y what it is about. The book looks at everything from basic e-cigs to more sophisticated vaping methods. It does mention the use of cannabis and cannabid derivatives, but it does not in anyway promote illegal activities of any kind. The book is very informative and very well written. I know I'll never take up smoking actual tobacco cigarettes again, but I may just consider vaping now that I've read this.

If you’ve ever been interested in an easy explanation of vaping, this is a decent book to use. It explains the differences between dry herb, wax and oils and how they work in vaporizers. The author has suggestions on budgeting your usage and how to find suppliers and deals. It explains the vaping apparatus and how it’s used. There are a few good nuggets in this book for beginners. For instance, did you know you can vape regular herbs and oils for other health benefits? This author explains that.

I have no clue how I ordered this ebook. Figured I paid for it I mind as well read it. It was an interesting and informative book.

This book taught me several reasons why E cigarettes are more beneficial for the body than regular smoking. It talks about vaping, the ingredients in E cigs that make it healthier for you to smoke and the cost difference. I honestly thought I knew alot about the street terms for smoking but, I really knew nothing after reading this book. It explains dry herb vaping using a hookah device. How vape pens work, Liquid and dry herb atomizers, the wide array of herbs you can smoke nowadays which blows my mind (damiana, green tea, chamomile, peppermint, hops, lavender), herbal cannibis. The medicinal effects of vaping cannibis, THC and CBD. What is wax vaping? This book basically has the answers to many questions about smoking or vaping that you have ever thought of and more. Definitely a short informative read. Very powerful information in here.

I thought this was a vaporizer, not a book.

Short and simple review: This book is good. I got the book a decade ago, and have yet to find something as good, or better in content. There is an assumption of at least some knowledge of C, asm, OS internals, and user/kernel APIs.

As a preliminary review without having completed the text yet, I have to say that this book is very well focused for the Windows developer. Focus is important because reverse engineering really puts one directly into nearly any possible aspect of the modern computer.This text will please even the moderately advanced programmer, although the first quarter or so might seem like too much review for the Windows C++ programmer. The .NET programmer will really benefit, though, since the focus through the Windows layers and into machine code will reveal a lot to the high-level person who hasn't yet had a chance to delve into 'internals.'I think the book serves as a "pro" book for someone with C++/Windows experience by tying things together and moving to its reversing core while at the same time serving as an "intermediate" book, ironically, for the high-level programmer who will read it more for a qualitative comprehension and have to go out and read more 'internals' books (like Jeff Richter's books) if interested in deeper understanding.

This book takes a tutorialistic approach to reverse engineering. It assumes you have a working knowledge of assembly language and C/C++. The author briefly introduces you to some of the programming languages in use, Windows Internals, gives an overview of some of the tools available, and then proceeds to walk you through some example reverse-engineering. The author spent alot of time covering Windows internals. The overview of Assembly language could have been a little more thorough before going into reverse-engineering, instead most of the appendix is devoted to this. More time introducing the debugging tools and the use of it's features instead of the brief overview would have been helpful too. Despite these shortcomings the book is very educational. If you are not up to speed on C/C++ and assembly would recommend reading Assembly Language Step-by-step: Programming with DOS and Linux (with CD-ROM) and The C Programming Language (2nd Edition) before reading this book.

Older book that still has plenty to teach you.

This is a good introductory book on reverse engineering. I would say it best suits somebody that has some years of developing experience in high-level languages such as C/C++ or Delphi/Pascal, while also knows something about Assembly language -- and of course with a strong curiosity for any "secrets" under the hood. From time to time I found myself nodding while reading this book.My work invloves using some software for modeling transportation systems but most of the time the details of the underlying models that software relies on are not well documented. The information in this book helps me quickly learn how to reverse and get the information I want to know. Besides this book is very well written thus very enjoyable to read. In this regard, I would like to say - as an extra bonus I learned a lot from the author's writing ! (Sure, English is not my native lanuage but I have to write a lot technical reports in English for my daily work)I love this book. Highly recommended!

Very helpful in understanding technical topics such as copy protection and type of operation for some virii. A comprehensive reference for understanding many of the modern software engineering techniques for the software designer. Comprehensive examples have been provided which may be applied by the reader to "software in the wild !" Highly recommended, up to date, and easy to read.

The book reads very good. Guides you through at a good pace; even for noobs

This well written gem contains everything needed for a solid foundation in x86 reversing. It will walk you through completing several daunting tasks and does not shy away from getting neck-deep in the nitty gritty details, including pages upon pages of groan-inducing disassembler listings. Be warned that if you just read the book and don't try following the examples on your computer, you will be missing out on a lot and may get the impression that reversing is as easy as the author makes it out to be in this book. There is also plenty of relatively pain-free discussion of high level theory, which comes as a nice relief after going through those previously mentioned pages of disassembler listings.I picked up this book to get better at exploiting software, and was not disappointed. However, this is not a book about exploit development. If anything, it is a book about software cracking, complete with a 50 page walkthrough of an intermediate level protection scheme. The chapter on finding security vulnerabilities is actually very weak, as is the chapter on malware analysis. Despite this, I was not disappointed because the fundamental reversing skills acquired by working through this book are also invaluable base skills for exploit development.My main gripe with this book is it's sole focus on the Windows x86 evironment. I would expect a hypothetical second edition to include many pages on reversing x86-64 code, as well as a chapter on Android and iOS reversing.
