If you are actually looking for paper dolls, these are very nice, but if you are looking for fashion information, the book is not as helpful. The illustrations are not labelled at all, so unless you already know what you are looking at, well, you don't know what you're looking at. Dover has such wonderful reprints. These are beautiful illustrations. Also, this is a light package to send to my daughter-in-law in London.

From an elaborately flounced and bustled pink-and-red walking dress of 1867 to simple wasp-waisted gowns of 1898, the four dolls model a total of 32 costumes (counting the ones in which they're portrayed), all with the trademark elaborate detailing of the era. Watch how bustles develop and diminish, only to return and shrink again, and marvel at the aniline colors considered attractive to Victorian eyes. Specific dates and perhaps explanatory notes would have improved it, but it's still a useful overview of the template female dress of a distinctive period in American history and style.
