I used this book right after it was published when it was already out of date in some regards. A lot of the book was interesting and helpful but you have no way of knowing which parts before you get there. The issue with the book is that somebody didn't spend enough time doing their homework.Make sure you get a good guide for Buenos Aires. This city is too big for almost anybody to know in the way most people know their cities. It's also the city of condos, cafes and art. There is something to do and see without end. You can waste time looking for something that's not there, and things change quickly so you need a very recent guide.The neighborhood maps in the book were helpful but there were also many unhelpful elements in the book. I found it wasn't realistic to use many restaurants suggested as they weren't the best places nor had the best food, but rather tended to be oversold to tourists. A genuine effort would not list tourist traps when there are so many spectacular venues. The book seemed like a form of advertising.I took the ferry to Montevideo and recommend it. However, this book set me back in terms of wrong information on Montevideo.

This book is limited. It contains only basic information about Buenos Aires and leaves out plenty of interesting facts. For example, the Feria de Mataderos is not even mentioned once in the book and that is definitely worth seeing. The book contains a lot of photos, but I could care less about that. It seems like the boring postcard photos were simply stuck in the book to take up space and provide a superficial, worthless gloss (perhaps to up the price).I expected much better quality from Lonely Planet. I bought this book because it was a Lonely Planet guide and I had been happy with these guides in the past. However, after this book, I have negatively changed my opinion of Lonely Planet. I will NEVER again buy another Lonely Planet book without looking at it first in-person.This book is a total disappointment. For shame, Lonely Planet!

I came, I saw, I conquered. I had already come, seen and conquered: This was my second trip, so I had the capacity to go deeper behind the curtain and this book certainly helped.

I was very disappointed in this book. The data was collected in 2010 and at least some of the recommended cafes and restaurants are no longer in business (one in particular is the Richmond Café on Avenida Florida). The walking guides were extremely unclear, not like Rick Steves' "turn right at ______Street by the _____store. . .", and the accompanying maps were miniscule - less than 1/8 of the page - and poorly marked. I have nothing positive to say about this guide. Save your money.

I got this as a gift, so I can't say whether the product shipped is the one advertised. My version is the one advertised. It was a fantastic guide book, spot on with restaurant/bar recommendations in Buenos Aires, the hotel we stayed at in San Antonio de Areco, and a cooking class we took outside the city. It even led us to the "Guia T" - the bus guide which was the fastest and cheapest way to see more of the city.Great neighborhood descriptions - very informative and interesting. Loved this book. Would definitely buy another Lonely Planet guide.

I am an American studying abroad in Buenos Aires and I wanted to advise anyone who is considering buying this book to save their money. I had been using the Time Out guide in the city, which is infinitely better, but I brought this guide on a trip to Colonia and Montevideo because it had much more information. As it turned out, nothing the guide recommended for Montevideo was true or even open. It listed two vegetarian restaurants, one with three locations throughout the city. I spent the better part of a day walking around the city only to find that not a single one of those four was still in existence. I then found a Lebanese restaurant in the guide and walked there, only to find that it wasn't open either. I thought maybe some shopping would improve my mood... but few of the places listed still exist. We couldn't find the reccomended Baar Fun Fun or the Cafe Brasilero. At this point, I tossed the guidebook in the nearest trashcan. At least for Buenos Aires and Uruguay, its much wiser to stick with time out.

I bought this guide two months before my travel to Buenos Aires. I studied it and marked all interesting places in the city. Later in the Hotel I asked for a map (It was free)and marked all the interesting places.The guide shows wonderfull places to go, beautifull monuments, good restaurants and coffee shops.Don?t pay attention to prices in the guide, devaluation has changed everthing, You must know 1 US Dollar is equivalent to 3 or 3 Pesos. Also you can change Brasilian Reales, Euros, and Pounds. Example A Water Bottle is worth about 1.20 Pesos, a gooood and juicy Steak is worth 16 pesos. A Taxi is worth about 6 or 10 pesos. The guide say you could spent almost 60 US $ Day, I think it?s abou 45 US $ day.Try central hotels, near "Teatro Colon" or Galerias Pacifico Shoping Center.Conclusion: It?s a nice guide, but you will need better maps.

The book was written before the peso devaluation and subsequent crisis and is utterly useless unless you need a paperweight. This 3rd Edition is dated March 2002, and all hotel and restaurant pricing is from pre-devaluation. I spent November 2004 in Buenoes Aires and am headed back January 19, 2005. Buy Time Out Buenos Aires instead: Second Edition 2004. It is perfect!

The best dirty read I've experienced in a long time. Full of steam with huge variety of sexual encounters and characters.The book is about a young woman who wants to have a crazy, wild day, full of sex and fun. She's hot, confident, cocky and knows what she wants and how she wants it. Well, it's you, the reader who says what she wants. But once you put her in the desired direction, nothing can stop her.From the usual hot young men and women, to older guys and even drunken hobos. You can go as wild as you want it.The CYOA elements are great. You choose not only the general direction of the story, but also little things - like the type of sex you want to have with a character, the sexual positions, or how far you want to go during each encounter.I would've probably liked if there was a little more foreplay before the sex scenes, if the main character was a little harder to get.If you want a quick, dirty read, covering all kinds of fetishes and kinks - this CYOA story has it all.It's great to see the author back. Looking forward to read more of those naughty books.

I read a lot of interactive erotica and Amanda Clover is maybe the best in the field. This book might be her masterpiece as it tackles the ambitious idea of controlling a young woman on a day of sexual adventures. I was worried it might get repetitious but the author creates scenario after scenario that all feel unique. Just about anything that you can imagine happening to a sexually adventurous woman can happen. Sex with the neighbors? Orgy? Seducing a best friend? Glory holes? Sex parties? Random hookups? Freaking cosplay? I have barely scratched what I have found so far and after a few weeks, I still have parts of the book I haven't read.As a long time writer, the author knows how to build characters even in a short time. She understands grammar which can be a rarity in the erotic section. Most of all, she knows how to have fun with a story and you will never ever be bored with the choices in this book.

I have just started this and there are quite a few scenarios that happen here. From getting to know your neighbors, to rekindling an old friendship, to sex parties and even porn stars pop up. The thing that sold me on this is that there are lesbian encounters a day themes here. You do not have to have encounters with guys if you do not want to. That's great for someone like me where that type of content is not my thing. Everything is well written and each scenario is fleshed out well enough. There are times I wish there were other choices (a certain threesome I so wanted to happen) but you can't fault the author for that since there is already much in here.One small complaint I have, that is based on my tastes mind you, is that although you don't have encounters with men if you don't want to, your character does mention previous ones and some thoughts she may have about them.Overall this is a very good choose your own sexual adventure book and glad this is the first one I picked up.

Should only be read if you are in the medical profession and/or another profession that requires you have knowledge of Flu. History of Influenza from patient zero through process. Really thorough account from disease spread to how they handled the unexpected number of dead. Reminds you of a Biology book from college. Don't get me wrong, well written, but maybe the only book that can put you to sleep quicker than the bible.

On February 25, 2016 my healthy 48 year old son died from the flu. This terrible event sent me in search of knowledge about the virus. The search led me to this book.The book is well researched, yet the key element that makes the book readable is the narrative about the state of medical science, medical schools and their evolution at the start of the 20th century. Then the historical context is set up for the events that followed. There is also a detailed account of why the pandemic took such a toll on the world.Every year we are told to get vaccinated against the flu. After reading this book and having lost my son to the flu, the book gave me a deeper understanding of the forces at work and why sometimes the outcome can be so deadly.I highly recommend this book.

This book gave me far more than I ever wanted to know about the Great Influenza Epidemic of 1918-19. It begins in September of 1876 with the founding of the Johns Hopkins University, with its emphasis on medical research. It continues with the difficulty in getting doctors and educators to believe that there was a place for research in medicine at all. While this may be very interesting to many (including me) that is not the thing for which I had purchase this book. I kept waiting for the plague to begin and, sure enough, chapter 14 begins with the news that in February of 1918 someone from Haskell County Kansas most likely carried the disease to Camp Funston, a U.S. Army training camp located on Fort Riley, southwest of Manhattan, Kansas. It goes on to tell in great detail the difficulty of convincing the army, or most anyone in power, that it was killing people, even as it was doing exactly that.The book is, my opinion, well written. There are so many characters, however, that I had to retrace my steps from time to time in order to refresh my memory of who was working to stop the spread and who was pushing hard to keep moving soldiers from place to place within America as well as abroad. It was primarily the troop movement that enabled the disease to become a world-wide pandemic.I do not wish to discourage anyone from reading the book: it probably explains how a disease killed more than 21 million people before it ended in 1920, in a world population of less than one-third of what it is today, about as well as it can be explained.If you should choose to read the book, just be prepared to decide how much medical history you wish to read. What is most discouraging is the fact that the American medical system isn't that much different in its unwillingness to accept change in the diagnosis and treatment of illness from the way it was then. Thankfully, research has prevailed, and science and technology have given us a great armament of knowledge and weapons with which to prevent and cure disease.

One of my all time favorite books is The Hot Zone by Richard Preston that explores the origins and epidemiology of the Ebola virus. I read it while still in high school and my interest in virulent and epidemic diseases has persisted since then.Typically I have a bigger TBR pile than I can handle so I tend to ignore the Kindle notifications about discounted or hot new books, however on a whim I checked one out and this book, which reminded me of The Hot Zone, was steeply discounted such that it was an irresistible purchase.The opening starts slow, and I'd argue the pace of the book is slow, plodding, and methodical, much as the scientists John Barry describes so vividly. Like Avery, he deep dives into the Spanish flu and leaves little if nothing unexplored. Like Welch he makes something deeply scientific approachable to lay people.I am especially appreciative that he took the time to develop the context so that readers could appreciate even more how influenza taxed both researchers and medical practitioners.Moreover Barry demonstrates the importance of vaccination and the continued risk and deadliness of influenza today without sounding like a government PSA. This is still a disease to be taken very seriously.Overall a gripping, thrilling read. I'm so glad for this whim of a purchase. My family...perhaps not so much as I've...uh....been talking their ears off about it.

John Barry has meticulously researched the information in this book. The Great Influenza killed millions worldwide, and at the time, no one had a clue as to what it was, how it was transmitted, how it killed, or how to stop it. In fact, the so-called doctors and researchers of the day didn't even know what a virus was. The respones to this plague by chemists, clinicians, researchers, doctors and medical facilities changed the course of medicine in this country from that of little more than witch doctors and shamans to what we now know as modern medicine and DNA. It is a brilliantly written book, and one which will scare the living daylights out of anyone who will read just how appalling the state of medicine and medical training was in the early 20th century.

I like this book even I'm not a parent simply because it shows how important is the surrounding in which any of us is raised. Most of the book for raising kids today are very children-centered, like everything is about the child and nothing about the people who raise those children. "Make a compliment!", "Don't judge!", "Give another chance!" - all those books are full of this kind of advice. None of those tells what this one tells first: be the role model for your child. Be the person you want your child to be. And you will raise the child you wanna raise: happy and loved, a child who will become a good person, just like you are. Because you did the job first for yourself and made yourself a good, happy person.The book is easy to read, with a lot of examples from life situations which I really like. A very practical book which you can read and reread when you need advice. For you and for your kid. For both of you to be happy. Also, the book is full of inspirational sentences which make you think what you will do in those situations.All in all, very good book.

I am not a parent, but as a person who is hoping to be one some day, I found this book enlightening. I especially liked the fact that it puts stress on how important a child's environment is for their development. I enjoyed the fact that it covers different stages of childhood and how to approach your child at different ages. I loved the idea that you should be a role model for your child and that you yourself need to be the person you want your child to become. I also found it quite refreshing that the book encourages you to talk to your child as a future adult, rather than some sort of alien life form that has no right to make its own decisions and choices. Overall, a great read for both parents and non-parents alike.

I found this book to be both informative and inspirational. As a parent, I think that this book would be very helpful for new parents, but was also helpful to me as a more experienced parent. It offered a lot of advice and information for parents of children of all ages. It offers tips, and guidelines as well as inspirational sayings. I think that it is well laid out and easy to read. Many of the concepts presented in this book are the same ones that I learned in various parenting classes and educational classes and seminars throughout the years. It is one of those books that you read through once, then go back and re-read as a refresher from time to time. I was very impressed with this book.

My children loved this book because of the stickers and the activities we did after each lesson. (age 9 and 7.) Some of the activity sheets were a bit challenging for my 7-year old to complete on his own, but if we worked on it together it was no problem. I recommend this book as a great way to walk your children through the true meaning of Christmas!

We ordered this as a gift to our children from their "Elf." I love how it walks through every step of Jesus's coming and birth, including the prophecies the lead up to the miraculous event. The kids really enjoyed shouting out the special phrase for each lessons, as well as placing the stickers in the appropriate place on the poster. I highly recommend this Advent Calendar to people with young children who want to focus on Jesus and the true reason for Christmas.

I have been reading this with my three nearly four year old son. We are doing the little kids version of course... but I have to admit that overall this book is not well written. I often have to rephrase the material or present the material differently. We are on like day 7 and I may just make up the rest on my own and just use the sticker chart. I am a teacher with all the credentials to back it up and frankly this advent calendar only did one thing - inspired me to write my own for my family to use. If you don't have the time to make one on your own... think of paraphrasing each section to a small statement that you can repeat each week like "God the father had a plan to save us" and "When we make mistakes God forgives us" and "God promised a baby that would save the world." sort of thing. We go through each picture and repeat the phrase. That is what is working for us.

I bought this to do with my boys 8 and 5. It is very simple and straightforward. They love putting the stickers on the poster. My only complaint is that some of the activity sheets aren't really good for their age group, and one actually wants me to cut the page out - but that would cut up the next day! Over all it is quite wonderful and for the first time we might actually make it through advent!

The book doesn't seem to be geared toward a specific age group, even though each reading offers a varied approach for a younger or older child. The activities vary quite a bit, some are too difficult for my kids to do and some are too easy. It's okay, but I'll be looking for another Advent book to do with my kids next year.

My kids (age range 11 to 2) enjoy this for Christmas. I love how it incorporates all the people from scripture to show how the birth of Jesus was planned long before He was born.

This is such a great alternative to a traditional Advent calendar. Instead of a calendar, you get a poster that has great kid-friendly graphics and lots of bright colors. My six-year-old looks forward to reading the Bible verse and putting the corresponding character sticker on the poster each day. Highly recommend!
