Good, but aging (originally published in 1979), intro look at the Eastern Front from the German perspective. For someone wanting to learn about this conflict, this easily read book is probably worth having in their initial collection. As can be seen in the table of contents, it is not a chronological (or comprehensive) account of the war, but focuses on various topics of interest such as German views of the Red Army, assault gun operations, combat in winter, etc.
Looks like a plain forgettable book about ww2, but this is one of the best WW2 books ive ever read. Has great details and actual stories of combat.
I usually listen to books via Audible. Not too many actual books can hold my interest to the end, but this one did. Recommended.
I was amazed by descriptions of the terrain, weather, and overall conditions in which the two sides contended. Also, I also was surprised by the relatively dated tactics and equipment employed; the German army relied heavily on horses for transport, and both sides still engaged in horse and rider cavalry battles.
My only complaint is there should have been more personal accounts of the war. Apart from that I enjoyed the book and would recommend it.

Very thorough, detailed and accurate as usual.
Very readable with a down to earth format. Must read for students of this era.Individual stories were compelling. Glad I wasn’t there.
